It is difficult to get other people to listen to you when working with them. Also getting your tracks produced is really expensive, so I thought if I learnt to do it myself, I could make five albums a month and it would be free. It would be me doing it, and it would be everything I am doing.

Sometimes when I'm writing a song I get so caught up in the production that I'm only on the first verse, and that sacrifices the songwriting.

Nothing makes me happier than writing a song that sounds good to me or that I want to play. Writing songs helps me.

Moving to London was a culture shock, but in a really good way. I'm more aware now, and I rely less on people in the music industry.

I have a lot of trouble waking up in the morning, but I get my best ideas really late at night, when I'm trying to sleep.

When I used to write songs, and especially on my own, it was just me and the guitar.

Traveling, seeing other cities, and going on tour inspires me a lot. If you have fans online, it's hard to remember that those people are real people.

I literally never think about the melody. I never thought that people listen to the melody because I listen to the words.

When you go on tour and see everyone, you're like, oh my god. This is really real life. It inspires me to write more songs.

I don't think I'm delusional, but I'm definitely a dreamer. I definitely want to see the best in things and believe in what I do.

I live in a neighborhood that's very family-oriented so I feel like everyone else is sleeping and I'm sitting, making music. It's just me. It's a great time to be creative.

I was pushed into the spotlight and I didn't really know what I was doing. The opportunity was amazing, but I wasn't ready for it.

I've always been very independent, and I love being able to enjoy different parts of music. It's amazing to be able to hear the sound in your head and immediately bring it to life.

I'm 23 now and I feel like it's been an absolute crash course in the music industry, I've just found my voice.

I've spent a lot of time in Inverness, playing gigs and on radio tours. I love going there because it's so quiet and such a contrast to the busyness of London.

I was basically put off by record labels for two years and I was writing songs every day. I made two albums that never got released, and that was a really big blow to my confidence, because everything I sent out seemed like it wasn't good enough.

But I think as you get older you realise that actually, if you want to dress sexy there's nothing wrong with that, as a woman it's your prerogative to wear whatever you want.

For a date, I'd rather do something different than drinks or dinner, like walking around Camden for a day in the sun, or something weird, like skydiving. Then at least if you don't get on you've had fun.

As an introvert you have to spend a lot of time with me and then over time parts of my personality will come out. But as an artist, sometimes you only get five minutes to impress someone, so it's a bit tricky. -Nina Nesbitt
