Quotes of Nicolaus Copernicus Interesting, inspiring statements of the famous Polish astronomer who said that the Earth revolves around the Sun - Statements of Nicolaus Copernicus

On May 24, 1543, world famous astronomer, mathematician, philosopher Nicolaus Copernicus died in Frombork, Poland. Copernicus propounded the theory that all the planets including the Earth revolve around the Sun and the Earth also rotates on its axis, due to which different seasons come and go. He was born on 19 February 1473 in Torun, Poland. Copernicus was also prominent among all the prominent astronomers of the Renaissance. Presented here are some serious, thoughtful, exemplary, inspiring, interesting statements of Nicolaus Copernicus.

Because it is the duty of an astronomer to write the history of celestial movements through careful and expert study.

It is generally agreed among authorities that the Earth is at rest at the center of the universe and they consider it implausible and even ridiculous to hold a contrary opinion. Although if we consider it more closely the question will still appear unresolved and therefore certainly not to be disregarded. Every apparent change with respect to position is caused by the motion of the observed object or of the observer, or indeed by an unequal change of both.

Therefore, when I considered it carefully, the contempt I feared because of the novelty of my idea and the obvious absurdity of it almost induced me to completely abandon the work I had begun.

Knowing that we know what we know, and knowing that we do not know what we do not know, is true knowledge.

Every light has its shadow, and every shadow has its next morning.

To know the mighty works of God, to understand His wisdom, majesty and power, to appreciate the wonderful workings of His laws, surely all this must be a pleasant and acceptable way of worshiping the Most High, for which ignorance is more grateful than knowledge. Not possible.

Because I'm not so obsessed with my ideas that I ignore what others think about them.

Ultimately we will establish the Sun at the center of the universe.

Nations are not ruined by a single act of violence, but gradually and almost imperceptibly by the devaluation of their currency, by its excessive volume.

The highest of all visible things is the heaven of the fixed stars.

The things I am saying now may be vague, yet they will be clarified at the appropriate place. I know that the thoughts of a philosopher are not subject to the judgment of ordinary persons, because his endeavor is to seek the truth in all things, to the extent that human reason is permitted by God.

There may be bigots, completely ignorant of mathematics, who dare to condemn my hypothesis on the basis of some portion of the Bible that has been twisted to suit their own purposes. I do not value them, and despise their baseless judgment.

The vastness of the earth actually pales into insignificance compared to the size of heaven.

Ultimately we will establish the Sun at the center of the universe. All this is suggested by the system of the procession of events and the harmony of the entire universe, if only we face the facts, as they say, with open eyes.

The center of the Earth is not the center of the universe, only the center of Earth's gravity and the lunar sphere.

The Sun is stationary and all other spheres revolve around the Sun.

Therefore why should we hesitate any longer to give it that momentum which naturally coincides with its firmness, rather than throw the whole world into turmoil—a world whose limits we do not and cannot know? Can? And why not accept that the appearance of daily revolution is of heaven, but the reality is of earth? And the circumstances are as Aeneas says in Virgil: We sail out of the port, and the land and the city go away.
